Kananga, Democratic Republic of the Congo — On January 26 local time, President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo visited the construction site of the Kananga–Kalambambu Road Project, a key component of the China–DRC package infrastructure cooperation program, for an on-site inspection.
President Félix Tshisekedi spoke highly of the project’s current progress and commended the China–DRC infrastructure construction teams for their efforts and achievements on this project as well as on multiple key road access-restoration works across the country. He expressed hope that the China–DRC infrastructure team would continue to intensify its efforts and press ahead with subsequent works to ensure the high-quality completion of this vital transport artery linking Kananga and Kalambambu, turning it into a true road of hope that improves mobility for local communities and drives regional economic prosperity.
It is reported that the access-restoration works of the Kananga–Kalambambu Road were officially completed in October 2025. Upgrading works are now being accelerated in accordance with high-grade road standards, including the paving of asphalt concrete pavement. As an important transport corridor linking the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola, the road has significantly improved travel conditions for residents along the route since the completion of the restoration works, with stable public transport services already in operation between the two areas. Once upgraded into a modern roadway, it will further promote the movement of people, the circulation of goods, and higher-quality economic cooperation between local communities and border cities.
