Recently, the Shuanghu Road section of the Burqin County Heating Project in Xinjiang, constructed by The First Engineering Bureau of CREC, was fully reopened to traffic. The 509-meter pipeline trench section was completed in just 55 days, ensuring smooth traffic flow ahead of the June tourism peak season and providing convenience for local businesses and government institutions along the route.
Located west of the Burqin County Government headquarters, Shuanghu Road serves as a key corridor for government services and commercial activities. Nearly 20 businesses, along with government offices including the Tax Bureau, Justice Bureau and Archives Bureau, are situated along the roadway. The project involved the simultaneous installation of DN500 drainage pipelines and DN600 district-heating pipelines. Large pipe diameters, complex overlapping construction activities, and the timing of spring snowmelt and preparations for the upcoming tourism season placed significant pressure on the construction schedule.
To minimize the duration of road occupation, the project team refined construction scheduling down to every meter of pipeline trench. A combination of phased half-road closures and assembly-line construction methods enabled seamless coordination among excavation, welding, inspection and backfilling operations. By increasing labor and equipment deployment and implementing round-the-clock shift work, the team accelerated progress while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. As a result, the entire 509-meter pipeline installation—from initial excavation to final road restoration—was completed in only 55 days, significantly shorter than a conventional construction timeline.
“I was worried that the construction barriers would affect business in May, but I didn’t expect the road to reopen so quickly. The pavement is smooth and everything looks great,” said Ms. Ma, a local shop owner. Residents visiting the Tax Bureau, Archives Bureau and other government offices have now resumed normal travel routes, while traffic flow has returned to normal without the need for lengthy detours.
As a key component of Burqin County’s heating infrastructure improvement program, the completion of this pipeline section will significantly enhance heating distribution capacity and improve the local drainage system. At the same time, the project’s efficient “fast-entry, fast-exit” construction approach has freed up valuable road capacity ahead of the upcoming tourism season, demonstrating a tangible commitment to improving public services and local livelihoods.
