While excavating the soil using cutting devices such as the cutterhead, the muck removal system simultaneously discharges the excavated spoil outside the tunnel. The thrusting system pushes the main machine forward along with the precast segments to provide simultaneous tunnel support, thereby achieving integrated construction that combines excavation, tunneling, muck removal, and support.

The earth pressure balance pipe jacking machine uses modified excavated soil from the soil chamber as a balancing medium at the cutting face. It controls the pressure within the soil chamber by adjusting the soil discharge rate via a screw conveyor system, thereby further balancing the earth and water pressures at the cutting face.

A slurry balance pipe jacking machine uses a bentonite slurry as a support medium. The slurry forms an impermeable slurry membrane on the excavation face, using the pressure of the slurry to balance the earth and water pressure on the excavation face. The slurry, carrying excavated soil, is discharged from the tunnel through pipelines and separated from the soil by a slurry-soil separation system.
